Photography Copyright

As parents, we love to snap pictures of our children!  It makes sense to hire a professional photographer to take some great photos of the big highlights of the lives of our children - from newborn, to holiday family photos, and to first birthday snapshots.

More than likely, your photographer provided you a print release to send out holiday cards, post on your social media sites, and print for your personally viewing.

However, unless you have written permission from the photographer, you can't copy, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the photographs.

This means if you would like any professional photographs in your photo book that I create, you will need to have written permission from your photographer.   If I see any photos that are obvious to be a professional photographers work (e.g. a watermark), or if I believe it looks to be the work of a professional photographer - I will remind you to send me the approval of that photographer.  Ultimately, you are responsible and accountable to ensure that you have this approval for any professional photos taken.   Failure to do so could make you liable.

I have an example letter you can email your photographer, explaining that this will not be used on this site or any social media site to advertise future photo books.   This is only a 3rd party creating a photo book on your behalf - and that the book includes both photo you took and, if permission is granted, the photographers photos as well.
